Surrounding Area
The beguiling St Just Church, one of the most visited churches in England, is a short walk away. There are wonderful walks around Messack Point (National Trust) and to St Mawes following the coastal path, all of which can be started from the cottage door. Safe, sandy beaches are only a short distance away, accessible both by car and by boat. Numerous gardens are within striking distance, as are other must-see Cornish attractions such as the Eden Project near St Austell and the Maritime Museum at Falmouth.
The south coast of Cornwall is a playground for sailors. Visitor’s moorings are available in St Just Creek below the cottage, with nearby Mylor and Percuil both offer sailing tuition and watersports. There are also designated waterskiing areas close by. Our Cornish shrimper “Egret” is available to charter and is conveniently moored in St Just Creek during the sailing season. This 22ft fibreglass hulled boat is the ideal boat for the area, with a lifting centreplate giving her the ability to explore drying creek beds, and yet with enough weight and balance to be seaworthy. “Egret” is the ideal family day boat for exploring the creeks and beaches in the area.
There are numerous pubs and restaurants nearby, including the Tresanton Hotel at St Mawes and the Driftwood at Rosevine. St Mawes has a Co-Op, deli, cafe, butcher and bakery, and fish can be bought fresh from a local supplier at Rosevine. If you prefer to do your shopping on the internet before you leave home, Tesco will deliver from their store at Truro. There is a newsagent and post office in St Mawes, or newspapers can be delivered by arrangement.
Penpol has been a much loved family holiday home enjoyed by the same family for nearly half a century, and offers something for every age and stage; safe swimming and exploring for tiny children, exciting sailing and watersports for teenagers, first class competitive sailing or more gentle exploration of the many waterways for the whole family. The surrounding countryside offers fantastic choice for walkers and garden lovers. Alternatively you can just relax in the garden and admire the breathtaking view, taking in the action on the water with the company of a good book!
